In response to a fire that devastated Kya Sands earlier this year, destroying 1,200 homes and leaving over 2,000 people homeless, Heriz Gallery has launched the #HerizHero campaign to help those affected by the blaze.
The campaign is intended to raise awareness and includes a charity carpet auction in the near future and a drive to donate used carpets to the victims of the fire. Gallery owner Javad Shokoubhin belives that a carpet is the archetypal experience of comfort – no matter how humble your home, every person deserves to have some comfort – none more so than people who have lost everything.
Situated in The Straight shopping centre in Pineslopes, Fourways, this virtual Aladdin's Cave of carpets is winning the hearts and minds of the local community. Javad and his partner, Majid Saffari, have woven 'giving back' to their local community into their everyday business philosophy. With community involvement a part of their family culture and business ethos, Heriz Gallery embraces their responsibility as a local business to give back to the community and to engage with customers to join us in making a difference where it’s needed most.
Steeped in the Heriz Gallery family business that was established in Teheran in 1950, Javad and Majid brought with them their expert knowledge of hand-woven Oriental and Persian Carpets - making ancient middle-eastern art accessible for all budgets and providing a rich selection that caters to all preferences. This business ethos allows young homemakers to find something to fit their pocket. "Once they fall in love with the beauty of an authentic hand-woven carpet, it becomes the love affair of a lifetime," says Majid.
Heriz Gallery only imports authentic hand-woven carpets made from highest quality wools and silks, from the popular Kelims to a fine selection of Chobi, Belouch, Bukhara and Qum carpets, as well as modern and contemporary rugs. Taking pride of place are exquisite Saffavid designs, hand-woven and double-knotted in New Zealand wool and natural silk, with a hand cut finish that offsets the delicate silk work.
Special carpets in their collection include award-winning designs from the 2014 Carpet Design Awards at DOMOTEX in Hannover. These are the Garden Antracid which won Best Transitional Design, and the Pazyryk Silver which was a finalist under the Best Traditional Design. The Pazyryk design was based on the original Pazyryk Carpet, the oldest known surviving carpet in the world dating back to the 5th Century BC, during the time of the Achaemenid Empire or First Persian Empire. Both designs are currently available at Heriz Gallery.
Heriz Gallery is collecting used carpets for the #HerizHero campaign. This is a great opportunity for anyone to bring in a used carpet to contribute to the campaign. Heriz Gallery will use its expert cleaning and repair service to restore used carpets to a good condition before distributing them to the local community.
For shoppers who would like to make a difference, for every purchase worth R2,500 or more, Heriz Gallery will donate R500 to the #HerizHero fund. Just be sure to mention HerizHero when you make your purchase. Visit www.herizgallery.co.za to view their virtual carpet gallery.
